American Sanskrit Institute's

Introduction to Sanskrit

with Kacey Davy

April 14 & 15 | 11:15 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. | Tuition: $200

Knowledge of Sanskrit makes it possible to grasp the subtleties of yoga, whose body of teachings are written in Sanskrit. Since ancient times the practice of yoga has included the study of Sanskrit and the chanting of Sanskrit mantras to induce calm and clarity in meditation. Sanskrit is integral to yoga meditation and its pure sounds essential for harmonizing and balancing the mind.

This Sanskrit Training will teach you how to approach the language of yoga as a yoga that is both enjoyable and inspiring. The first step in learning Sanskrit is to develop an intimacy with its sounds; become familiar with their exact location, feeling their force and power, and the unique way they vibrate the palate and engage the breath. Above all, enjoying sound is at the heart of our program.

The 12 hour Sanskrit Training is an educational adventure that will give you a permanent connection to the beauty and energy of Sanskrit as well as a dynamic model of yoga in the classroom that supports a natural and effortless focus. This weekend workshop will give you intimate familiarity with the unique points of resonance in your own palate that supports Sanskrit’s sacred sounds. And you’ll be firmly grounded in proper pronunciation of this ancient language.

Kacey Davy is a teacher with the American Sanskrit Institute who recently relocated to South Lake Tahoe.  She was initially drawn to the language by listening to her teacher Zoe Mai chant before asana class each morning. Kacey enjoys chanting from traditional texts such as the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras and Shiva Sutras as well as the study of grammar and philosophy found within. Through the use of ASI’s sanyama meditation practice, Kacey has used her Sanskrit studies to dive deeper into herself and hopes to inspire others to pursue Sanskrit and meditation as part of their yoga practice. She is registered with the Yoga Alliance as an RYT-500 and practices and teaches Mysore style Ashtanga Yoga.

Graduates receive 12 hours continuing education credit with Yoga Alliance.
